The Department of Urology / Genito-Urinary Surgery was established in 1984 and has since been guided by many pioneers in the field. Initially functioning as a sub-specialty of General Surgery, the department has evolved into a full-fledged super-specialty through the continuous dedication and commitment of its faculty.
Starting as an undergraduate teaching unit, the department expanded its academic scope by initiating postgraduate courses in 1991. In 2020, it achieved another milestone by being awarded M.Ch. Urology residency seats, marking a new era of growth in advanced urological education and research.
To ensure the latest and most updated modalities of investigations and treatments in the fields of Endourology, Renal Transplant, Andrology, Onco-Urology, and Reconstructive Urology.
To establish the department as a center of excellence through continuous innovation, quality care, and research-driven medical practice in urology.
To incorporate and effectively implement modern technology in teaching, learning, and evaluation — developing globally competitive, competent, and confident urosurgeons.
To engage in ethical practice of urosurgery and conduct social health camps, reaching communities through initiatives such as the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan by the Government of India.
To provide access and familiarization for all students in the fields of Endourology, Renal Transplant, Andrology, Onco-Urology, and Reconstructive Urology.
Demonstrate proficiency in research methodology and epidemiology, contributing to academic growth and scientific progress in the field of urology.
Exhibit strong communication skills in explaining management plans, prognosis, and providing counselling and health education to patients, families, and communities.
Develop as self-directed learners by recognizing continuing educational needs, using appropriate learning resources, and practicing evidence-based medicine.

Dr. Anil D. Huddedar has been the Head of the Department since 2013. He holds MBBS, MS, and MCh degrees in Urology. Dr. Huddedar completed his MBBS and MS from Dr. VMMC, Solapur, and pursued his MCh in Urology from Grant Medical College. He is a consulting Uro-Surgeon and Andrologist, with specialized training in Renal Transplantation and Endourology.
