About the Department

Sports Physiotherapy is a specialized branch of physical therapy focused on preventing, managing, and rehabilitating injuries related to sports and physical activities. It benefits both professional athletes and individuals engaged in regular fitness routines.
With hands-on techniques, exercise-based rehabilitation, and performance enhancement methods, Sports Physiotherapy helps reduce pain, restore mobility, improve strength, and prevent future injuries. Its goal is to ensure safe and effective return to sport while maximizing overall athletic performance.

HOD & Professor

Dr. Smita Patil

She is passionate about treating acute musculoskeletal and sports injuries and has over 45 research publications in national and international journals. She holds copyrights, a book chapter, and a book publication, and has expertise in planning and delivering effective physiotherapy care. She has presented at major conferences and received the Best Researcher Award (KIMSDU, 2016) and poster awards in 2021 and 2023.
A recognized UG & PG examiner, BOS member of KCPT, KVV, and NAAC Criteria 2 convenor, she has also provided physiotherapy services at regional, state, and national sports events. She remains dedicated to teaching, clinical training, and delivering the best patient care.
