About the Department

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at the School of Dental Sciences, Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Karad, offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for conditions related to the face, mouth, and jaws. The department provides both routine assessments and advanced surgical or medical management for a wide range of oral surgical conditions.

HOD & Professor

Dr. Nilesh Mishra

Dr. Nilesh Mishra is the Professor and Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the School of Dental Sciences, Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (KVV), Karad, Maharashtra. A postgraduate teacher and recognized UG–PG examiner, he has over 100 PubMed and Scopus-indexed publications and serves on editorial boards and as a reviewer for several journals.
Author of five textbooks in maxillofacial surgery, he is also the nodal officer for cleft and craniofacial surgery at KIMSDU, Karad. With 15+ years of clinical experience, his expertise includes maxillofacial trauma, head and neck pathology, oral malignancy, TMJ disorders, minor oral surgery, and dental implantology.

Important Infrastructure .

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is equipped with state-of-the-art clinical, surgical, and teaching facilities, including modern operation theaters, a seminar hall, and demonstration areas. The department possesses all essential instruments and advanced equipment required for undergraduate and postgraduate training, research, and high-quality patient care.

Details

Undergraduate Clinic

The clinic is equipped for routine dental procedures such as normal and surgical tooth extractions. A dedicated Minor Oral Surgery Clinic performs specialized procedures like alveoloplasty, apicoectomy, and cyst enucleation.

Implant Centre

The department houses a modern implant centre with advanced dental chairs and multiple implant systems. Procedures include conventional and corticobasal implants, bone grafting, sinus lift surgeries, zygomatic implants, and patient-specific implants. A VIP clinic provides comprehensive dental care under one roof.

Postgraduate Clinic

The postgraduate clinic performs advanced oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures such as surgical extractions, closed and open reduction of fractures, cyst enucleation, jaw tumour resections, management of space infections, biopsies, suturing of soft tissue lacerations, and arthrocentesis. It is equipped with laser units, piezosurgery device, RF cautery, oscillating saw, bone cutting motors, osteotomy kit, cleft surgery kit, bone grafting kit, trauma plating kit, and distraction osteogenesis kit. The department also includes a recovery room, faculty rooms, PG room, seminar hall, and a department library.

Operation Theatre & Hospital Facilities

A dedicated operation theatre, ICU, and inpatient wards are available at Krishna Hospital for managing maxillofacial trauma, benign and malignant jaw pathologies, facial clefts, oral malignancies, reconstructive surgeries, and TMJ disorders. Additional facilities include a recovery room, patient waiting area, faculty rooms, PG room, seminar hall, and library.
