About the Department

The Department of Microbiology was established in 1985 under the leadership of Dr. M. T. Paithankar as the first Head of the Department. Since its inception, the department has been guided by dedicated leaders:

- Dr. S. T. Mohite
- Dr. (Mrs.) G. S. Karande
- Dr. S. R. Patil (present Head of Department)
The teaching faculty of the department is engaged not only in imparting education but also in diagnostic work, thereby playing a dual role in academics and healthcare services. The department offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs in Microbiology, catering to a wide spectrum of learners. To remain in tune with global advancements in the field, the faculty members consistently update their expertise through specialized training courses, hands-on workshops, and skill development programs

HOD & Professor

Dr. Satish Ramchandra Patil

Dr. S. R. Patil holds an MBBS, MD, and PhD in Medical Microbiology with over 30 years of teaching experience. A university-recognized UG and PG teacher, he has guided MD, M.Sc., and PhD students as an examiner and mentor. He currently serves as Director of IQAC at Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (KVV).
He has held several key positions in the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists (IAMM), including Member of the Executive Council (2013–2015), Joint Secretary (2015–2018), and Secretary since 2018, as well as Secretary of the Maharashtra State Chapter (2018–2019).
With over 55 publications in national and international indexed journals, Dr. Patil has made significant contributions to medical microbiology.
