KINS – World Breastfeeding Week Celebration 2025

“Invest in Breastfeeding, Invest in the Future”


Overview

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is a global campaign observed annually from 1st to 7th August, aimed at raising awareness about the vital role of breastfeeding in improving maternal and child health.

In alignment with this global initiative, Krishna Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), under Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Karad, organised a week-long programme integrating hospital-based education, community outreach activities, creative competitions, and interactive discussions. All activities were conducted in accordance with the themes set by WABA and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.


Objectives

  • To promote breastfeeding as a universal and sustainable health practice
  • To build and strengthen breastfeeding support systems at both community and healthcare facility levels
  • To provide accurate and culturally appropriate counselling to mothers and families
  • To actively engage students, faculty, and local stakeholders in creating breastfeeding-friendly
  • environments

Impact

  • Total Direct Beneficiaries: 130+ mothers and caregivers
  • Faculty Involvement: 20+ educators
  • Student Involvement: 40+ nursing students
  • Community Engagement: Active participation from ASHA workers, ANMs, CHOs, and local leaders
  • Outcomes: Enhanced breastfeeding knowledge, dispelling of common myths, and strengthened hospital–community linkages

Alignment with National & Global Guidelines

  • Activities were conducted in both hospital and community settings
  • Reinforced messages on exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months and continued breastfeeding up to 2 years or beyond
  • Covered high-risk newborn care, expressed breast milk hygiene, and support for working mothers
  • Competitions and discussions encouraged youth participation and inter-sectoral collaboration

Conclusion

The World Breastfeeding Week 2025 celebration at KINS demonstrated an effective blend of education, creativity, and community partnership. By engaging multiple stakeholders, the institute reaffirmed its commitment to empowering mothers, promoting infant health, and establishing sustainable breastfeeding support systems in line with WABA’s vision and MoHFW guidelines.
