Established in 1991, the Department of General Surgery has consistently delivered excellence in surgical education, patient care, and research. With a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty, the department provides comprehensive training for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

With a postgraduate intake of 21 students, the department ensures personalized mentorship and extensive clinical exposure. Regular conferences, workshops, and academic events help students stay updated with the latest surgical practices and innovations.

A well-equipped departmental library with updated textbooks and journals supports continuous learning and research. Every patient is treated with compassion, precision, and responsibility, ensuring the highest standards of operative and post-operative care.

HOD & Professor

Dr. Vijay Vitthalrao Kanase

He is Professor & Head of the Department of Surgery at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad, with MBBS (1981) and MS (General Surgery, 1985). With 28 years of UG and 22 years of PG teaching experience, he has extensive expertise in GI surgery, including Oncosurgery (Tata Memorial Hospital), Laparoscopic Surgery (KEM Hospital), and GI Endoscopy. He has served as Joint Organizing Secretary of the Maharashtra Association of Surgeons of India Conference, faculty at numerous CMEs, examiner for UG and PG exams, and is an active member and office bearer of several academic societies, including the Deccan Society of Surgery and Kolhapur Surgical Society.
