About the Department

Established in 1984, the Department of Biochemistry offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Fellowship programs. The department has adequate teaching and non-teaching staff and plays a major role in modern medicine. Biochemistry helps in understanding the status of various organs like the liver, kidneys, and pancreas. It provides insights into cancer, aging processes, and gene therapy. Biochemistry is an essential tool for diagnosis and prognosis of diseases, bridging basic science with clinical applications.

Dr. Axita Chandrakant Vani

Dr. Vani Axita C serves as the Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad. She holds an M.D. and M.B.B.S. from Goa Medical College and brings with her over 30 years of extensive teaching experience, including 17 years in undergraduate and 14 years in postgraduate education.
A visionary academic leader, Dr. Vani Axita has completed the Advanced Course in Medical Education, strengthening her expertise in modern teaching methodologies. Her dedication to the field is reflected through numerous research publications and conference presentations in reputed indexed journals, primarily focused on clinical biochemistry and medical education.
