About Dr. Girish R. Pathade
Dr. G. R. Pathade graduated from Shivaji University, Kolhapur in 1979 with Microbiology as his principal subject, securing First Class. He completed his post-graduation in 1981 from Yashwantrao Chavan College of Science, Karad (then Science College, Karad), affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur, where he secured the First Rank. His academic excellence continued with an M.Phil. in Microbiology from the University of Pune in 1989, followed by a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Shivaji University, Kolhapur in 1994. He was later honored with a D.Lit. from South America University, Uruguay.
Throughout his academic career, he served as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of Microbiology at Y. C. College of Science, Karad, for 25 years (1981–2006). He further contributed to the field of education as Chief Coordinator (Biotechnology, Microbiology & Environmental Sciences) at Fergusson College, Pune from 2006 to 2014, and as Principal of Haribhai V. Desai College, Pune from 2014 to 2020–21. Presently, he is the Dean of Krishna Institute of Science & Technology, Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Karad, overseeing U.G., P.G., and Ph.D. programs in Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Environmental Sciences.
With more than 40 years of experience, Dr. Pathade has demonstrated a strong commitment to teaching, learning, and research. He has guided 15 M.Phil. scholars, 15 Ph.D. scholars, and over 200 U.G./P.G. research projects across various reputed institutions including Pune University, Shivaji University, and YCMOU, Nashik. He has published over 200 research papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
His expertise and dedication have led him to work as a referee for Ph.D. thesis evaluations at several universities, including Pune University, Mumbai University, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU), Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University (SRTM), YCMOU, Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Rajasthan University, and others. He has participated in more than 50 national and international conferences, workshops, and symposia as a resource person and session chair. He has also authored five reference books in Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Environmental Sciences.
Dr. Pathade has organized over 30 state, national, and international conferences. He has served as Chairman of Principal Selection Committees and Local Inquiry Committees (LICs) at Pune University, Shivaji University, and Mumbai University. He has been Chairman of the Board of Studies (BOS) in Microbiology and a member of the Academic Council of Pune University (2016–2021). Additionally, he has been a BOS member at Bharati Vidyapeeth, KIMSDU Karad, YCIS Satara (Autonomous), and Vivekanand College, Kolhapur (Autonomous). He has contributed to Ph.D. admission committees, PG teacher recognitions, and has reviewed research papers for multiple national and international journals.
He has actively served on various professional bodies of Pune, Shivaji, and Mumbai Universities. His academic devotion has placed him on numerous committees at KVV (Deemed University), Karad, including the Standing Committee of Deans, Research Cell Committee, Research Fund Allocation Committee, Ph.D. Cell, Board of Examiners (BOE), Academic Council, and Board of Management (BOM). He also served as a Senator of Shivaji University, Kolhapur from 2000 to 2005.
Dr. Pathade’s significant research contributions have earned him five Indian patents, along with collaborative research activities at international institutions such as the Pacific AG Group, Florida. He has received eight State and National awards and has provided consultancy to more than 25 organizations. Recently, he has been appointed as an external expert for the FTRI recruitment/promotion panel and as a research committee member of Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Karad.
