The Department of Periodontology focuses on the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases affecting the supporting structures of the teeth — the periodontium. It emphasizes the scientific understanding of both healthy and diseased periodontal tissues and their role in overall oral health.
The department integrates clinical excellence with modern research and evidence-based education, preparing students to deliver comprehensive periodontal care. Clinical Skill Development

Train students to efficiently perform dental scaling, diagnostic tests for periodontal diseases, and utilize instruments for therapy and maintenance.

Develop a proactive and preventive attitude towards periodontal diseases—focusing on early detection, effective control, and sustainable disease progression prevention.

Aseptic Practice & Patient Safety

Instill strict aseptic techniques during periodontal and surgical treatments to prevent complications, ensure safety, and maintain standards of infection control and excellence.

Tooth Preservation & Specialist Referral

Promote optimal tooth conservation through comprehensive periodontal health maintenance and timely referral for advanced specialist care.

HOD & Professor

Dr. Girish Suragimath

Dr. Girish Suragimath, Professor and Head of the Department of Periodontology at the School of Dental Sciences, Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (KVV), Karad, completed his BDS (1994) and MDS (1999) from KLE Vishwanath Katti Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum.
An accomplished academician and researcher, he has guided undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. students, holding four design patents, 36 copyrights, 120+ publications, two book chapters, and five books. A passionate researcher and marathon enthusiast, he encourages holistic student development through academics, sports, and cultural engagement.
