About the Department

The Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology imparts knowledge of Dental Anatomy, Embryology, and Oral Histology to First BDS students and Oral Pathology and Microbiology to Third BDS students. The department also trains postgraduate students in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology.
It is equipped with qualified and dedicated faculty, advanced teaching and learning resources, including models, penta-head and research microscopes, and internet facilities for both staff and students, ensuring an ideal academic and research environment.

HOD & Professor

Dr. Nupura Vibhute (BDS, MDS, PhD)

Dr. Nupura Vibhute is the Professor and Head of the Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology at the School of Dental Sciences, Karad. She completed her BDS from Pravara Medical Trust & Rural Dental College, Loni, MDS from Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College, Pune, and earned her Ph.D. in 2023.
A postgraduate teacher, guide, and examiner, she has authored two books, received three copyrights, and published over 70 research papers. Her key interests include Forensic Odontology and Dental Education Technology, and she is known as a committed teacher and accomplished writer.

Latest state-of-the-art instruments including Penta Head microscope, Research microscope with polarization, phase contrast, dark field, binocular and monocular microscopes, microtome, precision balance, etc.

Undergraduate Teaching

  • The department teaches I BDS, II BDS & III BDS students in Oral Anatomy & Histology and Oral Pathology & Microbiology.
  • Oral Pathology

  • 110 hours of theory annually covering basic concepts.
  • 176 hours of practical training annually on identifying pathology slides, casts, and specimens.
  • Students engage in case presentations, pictorial representation of diseases, discussions, and seminars.
  • Oral Anatomy & Histology

  • Practicals include normal histology slides of tooth development and orofacial structures.
  • Training in identifying tooth morphology and dentition using casts and specimens.
  • Innovative methods like crosswords are encouraged.
