Oral Medicine & Radiology

About the Department

Oral Medicine is the specialty of dentistry concerned with the oral health care of patients with chronic, recurrent, and medically related disorders of the oral and maxillofacial region — focusing on diagnosis and non-surgical management. The Radiology part of the subject trains budding dentists in diagnosis using conventional and advanced imaging techniques, including the study of radiation and radiographic methods such as intraoral periapical, Orthopantomogram, lateral cephalogram, and cone beam computed tomography. The department also undertakes investigatory procedures like pulp vitality testing, blood investigations, serum chemistry, and multidisciplinary referrals and consultations. It focuses on the diagnosis and management of oral mucosal lesions, potentially malignant disorders, oral malignancies, and oral manifestations of systemic diseases, thereby contributing to improved patient outcomes.
