About the Department

The Department of Pathology at KIMS was established in 1985 with Prof. Dr. S. R. Desai as the first Head, followed by Prof. Dr. S. R. Kanetkar from 27/07/2012 till date. The department is actively engaged in both teaching and diagnostic laboratory services. Courses offered include MBBS, MD Pathology, Ph.D., and PG-DMLT. Faculty members regularly upgrade their knowledge and skills through workshops, CME, conferences, and hands-on training to stay aligned with current pathology practices.

Our Objectives

Disease Understanding

Identify and explain etiology, pathogenesis, gross and microscopic features, investigations, complications, and outcomes of common diseases.

Clinical Correlation

Correlate clinical features with pathological changes to improve diagnosis, lab interpretation, and treatment planning.

Diagnostic Skills

Apply pathology knowledge for accurate diagnostic approaches, appropriate investigation selection, and treatment planning.

HOD & Professor

Dr. Nanda Jaywant Patil

Dr. Nanda Jaywant Patil has been the Professor and Head of the Department of Pathology since 01/07/2025, with over 30 years of teaching experience. She is a University-recognized UG and PG teacher, examiner, and guide for MD and PhD courses.
She completed her MBBS and MD in Pathology from B. J. Medical College, Pune, and is in charge of the Krishna Breast Tissue Bank. A life member of the Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists (IAPM), she also served as Organizing Secretary of MAPCON 2021 at KIMSDU, Karad.
Dr. Patil has over 100 publications in national and international journals, reviews for reputed scientific journals, and actively participates in community work.
