Fellowship in Pain & Palliative Medicine

The Fellowship in Pain & Palliative Medicine is a one-year training program for doctors with an MBBS degree. It equips healthcare professionals with the skills needed to manage pain, provide palliative care, and improve the quality of life for patients with cancer, neurological, renal, and other chronic conditions.

Overview

This fellowship addresses the growing need for specialized palliative medicine in India and beyond. Through a structured curriculum combining theory, case-based learning, hands-on training, and patient care, participants gain expertise in symptom management, communication skills, ethical decision-making, and holistic support for patients and families. The program prepares physicians to deliver compassionate care across diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, hospices, and community care units.

Candidates at the end of one year training should be able to:

Provide comprehensive pain management (physical, psychosocial and spiritual) and symptom control in chronically ill patients.

Ensure quality of life in incurable diseases

The fellowship aims at helping the general practitioners and specialists in symptom management in debilitated and chronically ill patients. There is a huge need to create awareness on palliative medicine in the scenario of huge rise in chronic diseases like cancer, neurological disorders, renal failure and musculoskeletal disorders.
