Fellowship in Cardiovascular Anesthesia
The Fellowship in Cardiovascular Anesthesia provides advanced clinical training in perioperative cardiac care, echocardiography, and intensive monitoring. It equips anesthesiologists with specialized expertise to manage complex cardiothoracic surgeries and critical cardiac patients.
Overview
The one-year Fellowship in Cardiovascular Anesthesia at Krishna Vishwa Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Karad, is designed to train postgraduates in comprehensive perioperative care of cardiac patients. Through supervised residency, cath lab exposure, pediatric cardiac anesthesia, and advanced monitoring techniques, fellows gain hands-on experience in complex cardiovascular procedures. The program also emphasizes research, journal clubs, seminars, and publications, ensuring fellows develop academic and clinical excellence. By the end of training, graduates are well-prepared to function independently as consultants in cardiac anesthesia and critical care.
To provide an intense, structured training program for post MD/DNB (Anesthesia) candidates, to enhance quality of anesthetic management in cardiovascular science.
To function as an independent faculty/consultant in the specialty of cardiac anesthesiology.
To carry out and help in conducting applied research in the field of cardiac anesthesiology.
To plan and set-up independent cardiac anesthesia unit catering to cardiothoracic vascular surgery and intensive cardiac care and cardiac catherization laboratory.
To perform a comprehensive Perioperative Trans Esophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) in the setting of Cardiac Surgery.
Fellows gain expertise from basics to advanced practices—covering perioperative cardiac care, echocardiography, critical monitoring, cath lab procedures, and pediatric cardiac anesthesia—building strong skills for specialized clinical practice and research in cardiovascular anesthesiology.
Methods of Training
Fellows undergo a one-year residency as senior residents in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cath Lab, and cardiac ICU. Daily work is supervised by cardiac anesthesiology consultants. Training includes postings in OT, post-op ICU, ICCU, Cath Lab, and echo room, with exposure to invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiology procedures, hemodynamic monitoring, and emergency care. The program also integrates seminars, workshops, journal clubs, and demonstrations. Additionally, candidates spend one month at a tertiary center specializing in pediatric and advanced cardiac surgeries.
