Fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal surgery
The Fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery is a 2-year program designed to provide ophthalmologists with advanced clinical skills and surgical training in the diagnosis and management of retinal disorders. Fellows gain hands-on experience in procedures such as LASERs, intravitreal injections, and vitrectomies, guided by experienced specialists.
Overview
This fellowship program addresses the rising demand for retinal specialists due to increasing incidences of diabetes-related retinopathy, cardiovascular issues, ocular trauma, and ROP. Conducted at KIMS, Karad, under the mentorship of three senior vitreo-retinal surgeons, the program combines outpatient observation, procedural training, and supervised surgeries to develop confident and competent retinal surgeons. The final six months are dedicated to Senior Residency responsibilities, allowing fellows to manage patients independently.
To train ophthalmologists in performing safe, advanced vitreo-retinal surgical procedures through ethical, evidence-based, and precision-driven microsurgical techniques.
Develop postgraduates into superspecialists in the field of vitreo-retinal diseases.
Ensure accurate diagnosis of all vitreo-retinal conditions.
Train fellows in modern imaging and diagnostic tools used in retinal evaluation.
Enable independent management of all medical retina cases.
Build confidence in performing LASERs and administering intravitreal injections.
Teach fellows to independently perform buckling surgeries.
Train them in performing vitrectomies and simple retinal detachment surgeries.
Assist and perform advanced procedures such as TRD and macular surgeries under expert supervision.
